So we heard you guys were looking for something a little stronger, little beefier, little wider. How about a Velocity Deep V on steroids? We've had this extrusion in the lineup before; you might remember it as the Deep V ATB? We will be bringing it back, for the trickster crowd, as well as for the bike polo crowd, and anyone else looking for a bit wider alterative to the tried and true Velocity Deep V.

We would like your input on what drillings we should bring it in for the 26" and 700c sizes. We will probably just be doing our Ano. colors, and NON machined sidewalls to keep the cost down. You shouldn't have any problems running a brake on the Non MSW Ano. We will have some new ano. colors to choose from such as, Olive Mist Green, Midnight blue, dark Bronze, to go along with our silver, bright silver, gold, and ti. grey.

OOOooh you doing 650c 28h?
ReplyDeleteFINALLY! To bad I just built up a set with 650c Deep V's for polo. If you are marketing for bike polo, the more spokes the better. It would be really cool if you could build some 48 hole single speed hubs at a low price point too.
ReplyDeletemake black ones!
ReplyDeleteDiscussion of these going on over at http://bikepolo.ca/forum/stuff-that-breaks/2009/04/06/who-needs-to-get-is-sponsored-by-the-velocity-chukker-new-beefier
ReplyDelete48 hole yay!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'll test ride these for you on the polo courts!
ReplyDeleteAnother vote for high spoke count. It only makes sense and would be a shame if it werent an option
ReplyDelete36h and 48h for 26" and 700.
ReplyDelete36h and you'll get touring cyclists buying them. 48h is too many spokes for that usage.
ReplyDeletei'd love to see 48's with eyelets
ReplyDeleteTUBELESS. Need a rim that can be set up with STANS or the "Ghetto-Tubeless" method. Polo players HATE bike flats.
ReplyDelete700c 48h white machined sidewalls
ReplyDeleteIf you're serious about polo the only drilling you HAVE to do is 48h. Of the bikes without disc covers, I count at least five in the Hardcourt Bike Polo gallery that have 96 spokes. Not to mention the nearly unilateral 48h preference in bikepolo.ca.
ReplyDelete48
48
48
how much do they weigh in 700c?
ReplyDeletei know this isn't the market you're looking for, but if the weight is reasonable, there is no current alternative to the 23mm wide hed bastogne pre-builts.
if they are reasonably light, it would be nice to have them in 20h and 24h.
but i'm guessing they weigh more than 600g?
48!
ReplyDeleteFor touring: 36 hole will probably be the most popular
ReplyDeleteFor polo: 48 holes will certainly be the most popular, since it prevents the ball from passing through the wheel
For trick riding (fixed): 36, I think
48 holes and a machined side wall for better breaking would make this the wheel to get for polo.
ReplyDeleteA 36 hole would be great. Advertise it as a training wheel for roadies. That's what I will use it for. What is the narrowest tire I can use?
ReplyDeleteIs this going to replace the B43 rim?
ReplyDelete@jimmy - No eyelets on the Chukker. If you ever have a spoke pull through the rim, we'll give you a new one.
ReplyDelete@Laura pants - They weigh >600 grams, but not much.
@mdmtber - Nothing narrower than a 25. The B43 is still being produced. Look out for pictures of the first production rims soon.
48 get tandem riders, 36 gets track trick kids, 32 gets "larger" racing types, 28 get kids who bought the wrong hub once and are building their whole bike around it.. i cant wait! i liked the elvs coating myself..
ReplyDeleteif you'll drill a 20 and a 24, i will buy a pair. if they build a good wheel, i could see ordering many sets to build wheels (to sell) with.
ReplyDeletethe market for 20 and 24 is probably 2 (1 each for me). but i would appreciate and purchase that pair.
hopefully you don't have to commit to drilling when you commit to extruding a new order.
related to hole count, are they center-drilled, or are they drilled offset for left and right spokes? i would like to build the rear 2x1 lacing. 16 drive spokes, 8 non-drive.
who do i contact to order (email or phone)?
Laura pants, you can call our office at 1-800-453-6126
ReplyDeleteis there a list of volunteers that i can sign up for haha, thatd be a dream, they are beautiful none the less, keep it 36
ReplyDeleteWhat is the widest tire it can take safely? Wider than the Dyad?
ReplyDeleteOffer it in all the same drillings as the deep V! This way it could be used for road riding for those (like me) who might want to custom build poor man's Hed Ardennes.
ReplyDeleteWayne
48h in 26" with cassette hub would be great. Us clydes would really benefit from these specs.
ReplyDeleteMachined sidewalls!!!!
ReplyDelete40 hole!!
hi,
ReplyDeletei'm searching a rim DeepV 700c in 40 holles
i don't find it in shops :(
please help me
24, 28, and 32 for the cyclocross crowd. Machined would be sweet but not a deal breaker.
ReplyDelete100 spokes in GOLD ONLY for making huge boss moves

ReplyDelete32h for a fast/ stiff rear for a niner single speed.
ReplyDeleteI love the Velocity Deep V ATb! I have one now that has seen lots of use on singletrack. I have straightened dings out of it and they have not cracked. I drilled out the presta hole to fit a shrader valve and a diesel truck type valve extender. Works great.
ReplyDeleteYou can machine your own sidewalls with a piece of sandpaper and a truing stand or bike frame. Get some 100grit dry sandpaper and roll into a 1" wide block. Spin the tire-free wheel and sand till it has a record groove like track. Awesome brake power!
Nice post! Your dish very super!!! Your decoration is very fantastic.....
