Hanson Hills MMBA Championship Point Series Race Report

Congratulations to everyone who participated at the Hanson Hills MMBA race this past weekend.  Here's a race report from organizer Dennis Murphy:

The third stop on the MMBA's Velocity-sponsored Championship Point Series took place in beautiful Grayling Michigan at the Hanson Hills Recreation Area.  The weather promiesed 30% chance of rain on the day of the race and Friday's steady drizzle seemed to promise the chance of rain.  However, while cool and cloudy in the morning, the weather cleared up, the sky turned blue and the temperatures climbed from the low 50s into the mid-60s during the race.  The trail was in great condition with the exception of one puddle!
Hanson is a flowing scenic trail with very little techinical sections but steady climbs will test all riders.  The event was another record breaker for the Championship Point Series with Brent Walk reporting nearly 300 racers!  Pictured below is the Velocity wheelset on display at registration which will be given away at the end of the season to a series trophy contender.
The elite women's field was also quite large and the five top racers are shown getting their awards with the wheelset on display.
Finally, we caught up with Steve Makuch.  He won a green rim-set supplied by Velocity to the Yankee Springs Time Trial in April.  He spent a few weeks building the wheelset himself!  Nice job, Steve.  Hanson was his inaugural race on these beautiful green Velocity rims.

Next up for the Series and for the Velocity wheelset on display: The Michigan State Games mountainbike race to be held at the Cannonsburg Ski Area just north of Grand Rapids.
