Hell Track 5!!

Our old pal Tom Mosher of YNOT Cycle in Toronto is throwing the 5th edition of his 'Hell Track' urban race on June 2.  Past year's events have drawn huge crowds with epic results.  Judging by this video, the course this year is worthy of the Hell Track name.  Plus, skid punt...?  Looks awesome!

BMX vs. FGFS edit

The crew over at Mashafix.com on Christmas posted a new edit with two of our FGFS riders Jakob Santos and Justin 'Congo' Mitchell. It's a BMX/FGFS mashup of sorts - enjoy. Just a warning, if you're not into rap, BMX or the FGFS scene - this might not be the edit for you.

Far East Gold...

The man, the myth, the legend, Benny Gold emailed us this add yesterday. It's from the Japanese, Loop Magazine. Sure we don't know what it says, but we know it's good... and it's gold.

Being drawn to pictures, given that I don't know what it's saying it was nice to see some of our riders, Torey and Wonka with the rest of the Grime crew on a cover a couple of issues back.

We still have these limited edition Benny Gold Deep V's available so get yours! One side black, one side gold. Hot!

New Release: Velocity 700c Psycho

We make no qualms about keeping our ear to the ground, listening to the cries of cyclists then pushing forward to produce a product that meets those desires. Throughout our 18 year history we've developed rims to suit the needs of riders and in our most recent past with the B43 to the Chukker, the Blunt to the P35, the A23 to most recently the Major Tom, each of these rims have been sought after by riders in each discipline they were designed for. The beautiful thing about all of our rims, there is an amazing amount of cross over to other segments that has occurred with each of these.

For today's Friday Highlight, we bring you a release of sorts. A rim that is one of the originals, beefy, tough as nails: the Psycho. First used for downhill mountain bike applications, then as a bombproof rim for BMX or as an upgrade to keep highly abused pedicabs rolling through the city streets, anyone searching for an eyeleted box sectioned rim that lasts, stopped here. Up until recently it was only offered in 20" [406], 24" [507] and 26". After discussions with some of the Leader and SE crew we had Australia start rolling these in 700c in 36, 40, and 48 hole drillings.

We are proud to offer you another option for your fixed gear freestyle needs. The 700c Psycho joins the Deep V, B43, and Chukker as a rim of choice for fgfs. The fact of the matter is wider rims hold wide tires better than skinny rims. Some of our smoother riders like Torey, Wonka, and Tom La Marche have been using our P35 wheels as a lightweight solution to their tire-rolling woes. The Psycho, a 31.5mm wide beefcake, is a much sturdier option for those seeking a rim that can take a serious beating.

We recently sent out a few rims to Soap from SE, Michael Chacon of Leader, and Erik V from Epic Ride Shop. We're looking forward to posting their thoughts once they get some ride time. For now, a few videos showing a little of what they'll be putting them through.

I took a quick minute to go back through all the posts from 2010 and tag most if not all of the fixed gear free style [fgfs] related posts, so if you're looking to find out all things with Velocity is involved with within the scene now and into the future, check out that tag.

Enjoy the weekend!

Twin City - All City

In the Cities? The Twin Cities? The Midwest? Then there is everything right with you hitting up this little gathering today through Sunday. The All City Championship put on by Bike Jerks.

We've posted on this before but it never hurts to repeat. Jeff [from Bike Jerks] has gathered some pretty great looking prizes from all the sponsors. You'll have your chance at getting your hands on some Deep V, Chukker and B43 wheelsets.

For a schedule on how this little bike party is going to go down, check out this link.

And for all of you who like videos... here are all the All City Championship videos I could find [without putting forth much effort]:

Revoked

Videos, videos, videos.

We continue to get to be part of some of the best videos within the FSFG realm. Each film seems to push further with better edits, film making, and creativity; which has been on par with the evolution of this segment of the cycling world.

Chris Fonseca has done it again with his new film, Revoked. One of our riders gets highlighted in it, Jakob Santos, throwing down on Chukkers and like so many has recently transitioned to P35s. Check out the preview below and to get your hands on a copy head over to Revoked store. A special promotion is being run between Fonsecafilms and Leader; when you purchase the film you are entered to win a Leader Trickstar 2.0 frame and Shadow Fork. Pretty stellar.

5th All City

We won't hide it. Here at Velocity we're fans of All-City Bikes. I don't mind tooting our own horn and say that our wheels do look spectacular on their rigs. One of their co-founders, Jeff Frane, another friend in the industry who also heads up Bike Jerks, for the last 5 years has put on a little gathering over in the Twin Cities or the Cities or MPLS or Minneapolis, Minnesota [pick your fancy depending on your region] and we're glad to be a part of it again for the coming edition in August.

Here's the rundown of events:

Thursday Night - Fixed Gear Freestyle Heavyweight Championship of the World
I'm renting out a skatepark for 3 hours. One hour of jam, and two hours of contest. We will ride from One on One to the park, get rad, and then go swimming. A & B classes, and a women's division if there are any women interested in competing.

After the amazing experience that was Midwest Mayhem, I am super excited to hopefully host all of the heavyweights of the FGFS scene. Fly in Thursday during the day, ride the comp, and on Friday we'll spend the day riding street (there are some crazy spots here, and lines that we've been waiting to see get done). The rest of the weekend will be a nonstop party. Talk to your sponsors, beg your parents, whatever you gotta do, just get here. It's gonna be a big deal.

Friday Night - Match Sprints, Trackstand, Afterparty
Head to Head single elimination tournament, mens and women's divisions. The Robeast is the three year running champ, can any of you hosses out there dethrone the King of Sprint? As for trackstand, it will be a trackstand comp with people yelling "take your shirt off" the whole time. The Bedlam theatre (best balcony in town) will be hosting us after the sprints, drink specials!

Saturday - All City Championship Alleycat Race, Afterparty
It's going to be a racer's race with the most badass woman and man taking home the title of "All City Champ." If you think you're fast, show up and prove it. Men's and Women's categories with prizes for 1st through 3rd place. There will also be a masters division for men and women 35 and up, a prize for first fixed gear, and a DFL winner.

Expect picks and drops, a time trial component, and about 25 miles or so of racing. I will be posting several of the manned stops ahead of time to help level the playing field for the out of town contingent.

The awards and afterparty will be in the alley behind One on One, there will be several kegs, and hopefully Kopish and D.O. (sp?) will be spinning jams. Likely some hot derby action will ensue. There are few things better than a good party in a downtown alley, and this is going to be a good one.

There may also be a little street fair in the alley before the race for any sponsors who want to come out and setup a table and show/sell their goods.

Sunday - Freeride
Zito's annual booze cruise wraps up the weekend on Sunday. A slow leisurely ride through town with beer, DJ's, and fireworks. The perfect capper to the weekend's festivities.

This is a weekend of bike bliss. Mark your calendars. Be there. It's not only the right thing to do but it's worth it.

Don't forget about this weekend either. The Midwest is really the place to be.

Devan and her B43s

The 700cmx scene is predominated by mostly males, many of whom have made the leap over from their bmx roots. With the likes of riders like Tom LaMarche and Eric Puckett, to name a few of the many, who are pushing the limit as to what can be done on a fixie. There is a growing movement of women who have started to dive into this, one of those being Devan Mickell.

Sunday Edit from Devan Mickell on Vimeo.

Devan is out of Nashville and is one of our sponsored riders, her love for cycling is contagious and it's been a privilege working with her. She recently did a little write up on the B43's she's been rocking for a while now and we can't wait for her to get onto the Chukkers also.

Enjoy.

Velocity Sponshorship & B43 Review

I'm really excited to announce that I'm riding for Velocity now and just placed my order for my new Velocity Chukkers today. I've ridden both Velocity Deep V's and B43's, and they're definitely a product and company I feel I can really stand behind. I just want to thank Velocity for being so great and giving me this opportunity! With that said, since I'm getting some new rims, I figured I'd go a head and give a little review of my Velocity B43s. Continue reading to check it out.

After over a year of racing, jumping stairs and ledges, wrecking, commuting, tricking, running into about everything, playing polo, and just all around riding hard and putting these rims to the test, they're still in perfect shape and not the least bit out of tru. Basically, they're tough; the toughest rims I've ridden on yet. But who would argue with that? They're 43mm deep and triple walled. What really makes this rim unique is that it does not sacrifice speed for strength. Too often are those terms mutually exclusive, especially when it comes to rims. Rather, the B43 attains a great balance for getting around fast while still enduring whatever the road throws out you. If you're looking for a good rim that's versatile enough for all types of riding, then the B43 is it. I absolutely love mine and I would highly recommend them.

dP2

All the way back in February, while Jacobi and Bolt were out in Richmond for the Handmade Show they got to hit up the premiere of Kareem Shehab's newest film Death Pedal 2. From all accounts, Bolt had a great time although recollection of the nights events is still a bit fuzzy.

This was another project that we are proud to be able to be a part of, with plenty of the guys rocking the Chukkers. We received a copy of the film last week and I was able to watch it last night and needless to say I was entertained.

From Wonka's segment setting off a great series of tricks that continued through out the rest of the film with the Friends portion showcasing a number of the riders who were there with the guys. Then the lead into Eric Puckett's clips was absolutely hilarious, which I had to watch twice just to catch everything that was said. The film ends with Torey Thornton, who hits some staircases that has blown my mind. Once you see it, you'll understand.

The film is available for purchase at the Death Pedal website and there are plenty of clips to be seen from outtakes, trailers and such to see at their site also. Kareem and all the guys who helped get this project together did an amazing job and I highly recommend you get yourself a copy. On a side note, when we opened the packaging we were pleasantly surprised and honored to have one of a Chukker wheel rocking the DVD, a nice added touch.

Photo Tuesday.

Yesterday and a post early today over at Prolly is not Probably, Prolly has posted a few pictures of a recent ride/interview with one of our 700cmx riders, Tom La Marche, over at Out of Print Magazine. Some of the stuff that Tom and a few others are pulling off is pretty crazy to say the least. Check out the OOPM website for more pictures and also check out Prolly's site for pictures from their 4/20 ride...

That's right, if you look closely Tom is rocking a P35 front and a Dyad rear, not the traditional stuff you see on most riders pulling off this stuff but certainly shows what we already knew: our rims go above and beyond what they might have first been developed for!

Below we have another one of our riders, Eric Puckett in a recent Volume Bikes ad going big over a gap with the Chukkers. Stellar.

Whether you're a roadie, a mountain biker or a 700cmxer, we'd love to see more of your own pictures rocking our rims. Post them over on our Facebook page or link them up on the comment sections here.

As simple as black and white...

Well, we've finally made it. Made it to another Friday, which means Saturday is a-coming! Days filled with rest and rides especially as the seasons begin to shift.

We have a new Limited Edition wheelset for you. The Black and White B43 track wheelset: our white B43 rim built up with our black solid flange hollow axle track hubs, white powder coated spokes and black brass nipples.

We have 35 of these limited edition wheelsets available contact your local bicycle for pricing.

All of our wheels are built with pride in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It's more than just a product for us, each builder puts their name on the wheel for a reason: as a stamp of approval. From our standard builds to our limited editions, the same amount of time and precision is taken to build every wheel, treating each as if it were our very own. It's this attention to detail that sets us apart. If you've ridden our wheels or rims you know, if you haven't what better time than now to do so!

I'll leave you with a few videos for the weekend... dreams of track crashes and fresh dirt:

We like videos here at Velocity and we're part of another one called Revoked by Chris Fonseca. Fonseca released his last project, No Cassettes, 10 months ago and his latest is called Revoked. Revoked will showcase the best riders and spots to date. Revoked is starring:

Justin (CONGO) Mitchell
Derek Joseph (ONE MAN WRECKING CREW) Mull
Gus (HONDURAN HAMMER) Molina
Matt (Silky) Spencer
Richard (MR. GLASS) Baldwin

They are now taking PRE-ORDERS @ revokedmovie.bigcartel.com and the film ships out the end of next month. A World Premier will be held in Long Beach at Downtown Showdown. Here are two of the trailers for the film:

In some more Frostbike news, the guys over at All-City introduced a new steed to their line up... the Nature Boy, a single speed 'cross bike:

Looks like it won't be available before July but that's plenty of time before 'cross season. Yep, those are B43's on there and yes, there is not a machined braking surface. Have no fear, just as the guys over at Urban Velo have seen, our ano rims without a machined sidewall can handle brakes just fine. Final spec on the complete bike doesn't look to be determined quite yet, either way this is a hot bike. I just might have to get my hands on one.

More mayhem!

Not much for you today, more and more videos and pictures are coming out of the the Midwest Mayhem this past weekend. Bike Jerks has got a bunch of videos up on some of highlights, check them out there. Hats off to you, Murder B, who walked away with the Chukker wheelset from us AND the Bruiser frame set in the B class. Well done.

I'll leave you with one video from the event, showing a pretty massive wall ride:
